Pasin praises indoor centre survey plan

MEMBER for Barker Tony Pasin has welcomed news Mount Gambier City Council will conduct a survey on a proposed multi-million dollar sport and recreation centre.

Council resolved this week to conduct an elector survey to determine support for the project “as soon as practical” after local government elections in November.

An estimated budget of $65,000 will be set aside for the process and the survey will be open to every Mount Gambier resident registered on the electoral roll.

“I welcome the news council will conduct a survey on this matter,” Mr Pasin said this week.

“As I have previously said, a survey will give a clear indication about community support that will inform my advocacy at the Federal Government level.

“Having said that, I do have concerns about the estimated cost of such a survey, but this is a matter for council to resolve.”

Mr Pasin said it was appropriate the council surveyed both ratepayers and non-ratepayers on the electoral roll.

Council is seeking $20m from the Federal Government’s Regional Growth Fund and will learn if an expression of interest application has been progressed in October.

“My understanding is the timing of this survey will not impact the two stage application process and will still allow me time to advocate if required,” Mr Pasin said.
