SOUTH Australia’s visitor economy will be the topic of discussion when Tourism Minister David Ridgway visits the South East later this month.
The upper house parliamentarian will visit Mount Gambier and Naracoorte on August 24 to meet with tourism industry representatives as part of a series of regional events organised by the South Australian Tourism Industry Council.
Mr Ridgway said the Marshall Government was focused on growing the state’s tourism sector and emphasised the importance of hearing first-hand from tourism operators and other industry stakeholders to discuss key challenges, priorities and opportunities.
“I firmly believe the best way to grow the tourism sector is to work collaboratively with local tourism businesses, operators and other stakeholders who have skin in the game and are at the coal face,” he said.
“That’s why I’ll be getting out into the regions over the coming months, to get a better understanding of how the State Government can help address some of the challenges that the tourism sector is facing as well as how we can maximise the enormous opportunities that exist.”
South Australian Tourism Council chief executive officer Shaun de Bruyn said the events aimed to foster a positive and strong working relationship between tourism businesses and the State Government.
“As the peak body for South Australia’s tourism industry, the council is committed to its role as an industry advocate and leader, contributing to the sustainable growth of profitable tourism businesses,” he said.
“We are looking forward to continuing the council’s strong working relationship with Mr Ridgway and the State Government to unlock the full potential of tourism within South Australia.”
The Meet the Minister events will take place from 10am to 1pm at Commodore on the Park in Mount Gambier and from 4pm to 7pm at Naracoorte’s The Avenue Inn.
