Seniors encouraged to enter photograph contest

APPLICATIONS are now open for Seniors Card members to use their creativity and enter the 2018 Through the Lens photographic competition, which forms part of this year’s International Day of Older Persons celebrations.

Office for the Ageing’s Seniors Card program manager Evlynn Hayes said the annual competition and exhibition was a worthwhile opportunity for older South Australians to use their skills in the art of photography and share photos they have taken.

‘We have Seniors Card members living in both metropolitan and regional areas in South Australia and the competition attracted close to 400 entries last year,” Ms Hayes said.

“With entries previously received from across the state, this competition showcases photographs captured by older South Australians that reflect their lives and interests, such as their family, neighbourhoods and communities and through culture, sport and art.

“Age is no barrier to creative expression and as this popular annual competition shows, there are avenues through which older South Australians can learn new skills, develop new interests and discover new ways to express their individuality.”

The competition runs until August 10, with finalists chosen in five photographic categories and an extra category allowing members of the public to vote for their favourite photograph.

An exhibition of shortlisted images will be launched on October 4 in the Adelaide library in Rundle Mall.

Contact the Office for the Ageing Seniors Card Unit on 1800 819 961 or visit www.sa.gov.au/seniorscard/photo for more information.
