Missing rider walks out of scrub

A SEARCH was launched in Canunda National Park on Saturday morning after a 36-year-old local male motorcyclist went missing overnight.

He was found to be safe and well after he walked through the park and arrived at the Southend general store at about 11am on Saturday.

Millicent Police Acting Sergeant Nick Patterson said the man was not harmed or injured and did not require any medical assistance.

Overnight temperatures in the park approached freezing point due to clear skies.

The man had been riding a motorbike with another motorcyclist at about 6.30pm on Friday.

He became separated from the other rider.

As the tracks became narrow in the area near Pethers Lane, it is understood he decided to park his bike and went walking in the scrub.

The alarm was raised by his companion with police at 4am on Saturday.

A search party was assembled and it included police, Country Fire Service volunteers and Mount Gambier and Millicent State Emergency Service volunteers.

They used four-wheel drive vehicles to search the scrub.

The Millicent SES searchers briefly returned to their Main Street base on Saturday morning and then returned to Canunda National Park to help a motorist whose vehicle was stranded on a beach.
