COUNTRY Health SA has begun planning for the redevelopment of the cramped renal unit at Mount Gambier Hospital.
Health authorities are in the “process” of engaging professional service consultants to design and document the expansion.
These consultants include architects, engineers and cost managers.
“Once the plans are finalised, the building works will be tendered by the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure in line with the government’s construction procurement policy,” an SA Health spokesperson said.
The redevelopment is expected to get under way next financial year.
The project follows a community grassroots campaign calling for the upgrade, which resulted in a bipartisan commitment ahead of the state election in March.
