Council forms sport centre committee

MOUNT Gambier City Council has formed a committee to continue to drive the campaign for a proposed $40m regional sport and recreation centre.

Four elected members were appointed to the section 41 committee to consider and make recommendations on matters relating to the project.

The committee was deemed necessary following council’s submission of an expression of interest seeking $20m through the Federal Government’s Regional Growth Fund.

Cr Ian Von Stanke, Cr Hanna Persello, Cr Frank Morello and Cr Sonya Mezinec will likely meet fortnightly as council prepares necessary documentation in readiness for stage two of the application process.

The work is expected to occur over the next five months, including the caretaker period during the 2018 local government elections that begins on September 4.

The regional sport and recreation centre committee meetings will be open to the public, with formal agendas and minutes available on the council website.

All recommendations will be presented to council for final decision and resolution.
