MOUNT Gambier RSL sides sit in finals contention with just one match remaining in the Lower South East Bowling Association’s Friday Pennant competition, which will be played in a fortnight’s time.
Mount Gambier RSL Red can not slip below third, but a victory over Mount Gambier would shift it into second position.
The other three Mount Gambier RSL sides must win their final games in order to play finals.
They each hold fourth place in their divisions by less than a game and in a strange coincidence, each will finish the minor round playing the fifth side.
A loss will push the RSL sides out of the four so in effect, they control their own finals destinies.
Division 1 Red and Division 2 have home games against Mount Gambier and Millicent Blue respectively, while Division 1 Blue and Division 3 play away against Millicent and Beachport Red.
Division 1: Mount Gambier RSL Blue 63/14 d Mount Gambier RSL Red 28/0
MOUNT Gambier RSL Red side played its sister Blue side and reversed the results from their previous encounter.
Jenny Bowering, Nancye Wilson, Karen Doman and Beryl Messenger (skip) were in particularly strong form in Mount Gambier RSL Blue’s 35-shot win.
Division 2: Mount Gambier RSL 54/13 d Kalangadoo/Penola 40/1
MOUNT Gambier RSL was no match for Kalangadoo/Penola on the road, losing by 14.
Linley McDonald, Wynne Turner, Pam Klem and Lyn Chirgwin went to lunch 10 shots down against Kathryn Brooks’ team.
Mount Gambier RSL scored five shots immediately after the break but Kalangadoo/Penola quickly replied and were then unstoppable, defeating Chirgwin’s four 32-18.
Eileen Cruise’s had a see-sawing battle against Nanette Wallace’s four but were unable to build a lead.
Wallace’s four pulled away after lunch, but Mount Gambier RSL answered and led 22-21 with one end to play.
The home side scored a single to secure a draw.
Division 3: Mount Gambier RSL 44/12 d d Lucindale 42/2
A TWO shot deficit at the end of play was enough to hand Mount Gambier RSL the win over second-placed Lucindale.
Mount Gambier RSL was down by seven shots with two ends to play, but scored four shots on one rink and five on the other to win by two shots and stay in the top four.
The Helen Moulden led four won 23-17 against Margaret Fallon’s four, while Keisha Pearson’s team kept in touch and only lost by four shots, 21-25 against Chris Watts’ side.
