ROBE Mayor Peter Riseley has expressed his opposition to regulatory authorities about the proposed location of a new 50 metre phone tower near the seaside town.
Mr Riseley has led the Robe District Council for the past 7.5 years and has written to its development assessment panel with his views.
He said the proposed location on the Southern Ports Highway at the gateway to Robe would have an adverse visual impact.
According to Mr Riseley, there was public land 1.7km away from this location where the tower would not be seen but the telecommunication capacity would still be enhanced.
The mayor had previously told the December council meeting of his concerns.
“It is important to note the Robe District Council understands that communication is seen as an essential service and Robe does have black spots and summer capacity issues.
“Council does appreciate Telstra work in this area but has major concerns about the locality of the intended tower.”
