HAVE you recently lost a beloved pet, moved house or taken on ownership of a new cat or dog?
If you answered yes, the Glenelg Shire Council wants to hear from you to ensure your details are updated on the animal registry by April 10 this year.
Expecting to receive over 6000 animal registrations in the coming weeks, local laws team leader Jacqui Muskee said there were around 4500 dogs and 1500 cats registered in the Glenelg Shire.
“To ensure Glenelg Shire maintains its status as a safe place to live, work and play, pet owners are reminded that we all have a part to play,” she said.
“Please ensure all of your pets are microchipped so we can identify them in the event that they become lost and keep your fury friends contained within the property, especially at night.”
The Domestic Animals Act 1994 requires dog and cat owners to microchip and register their animals three months of age or older with their local council.
Animal owners will be provided up to six weeks for their registration renewals to be paid.
Payments can be made in person at any of council’s customer service centres located in Portland, Heywood and Casterton, at Australia Post or via internet banking, mail or BPAY.
