A PORTLAND landmark and community asset is set to be restored thanks to the Glenelg Shire Council.
The Ruth Martin Memorial Building, will undergo several building and maintenance upgrades to help restore the building to its iconic state.
Situated on Julia Street, the building is currently home to the community radio station 3RPC and is one of the shire’s most recognisable and prized community venues.
Glenelg Shire Mayor Anita Rank said the upgrades would ensure the not-for-profit station would continue to succeed for years to come.
“These upgrades will cover the essential restoration works and internal building repairs and ensure that radio staff can continue to operate in a comfortable and inviting space,” she said.
Upgrades include external rendering and painting works, replacement of fret work, replacement of flashings and spouting to prevent water leaks and minor electrical repairs.
Works are expected to be completed by mid-2018 with 3RPC Community Radio continuing to operate during the building upgrades.
