Housing demand

A STRONG start to the Millicent real estate market has been made this year according to a local agent.

Fiona Telfer said there were already a number of positive signs which gave rise to optimism.

The South East Property Sales and Management proprietor said the number of property inquiries had lifted.

“This can be seen in the number of calls to our George Street office as well as on the online platforms,” Ms Telfer said.

“The demand has been driven by people who are coming to Millicent for work opportunities in the service and secondary industries.

“The word is getting out there about Millicent’s affordability and good climate.

“We do not have weather extremes or natural disasters like floods.”

Among the agency’s sales for January has been the recent auction of a property on the outskirts of Millicent.

Ms Telfer said the selling price of $220,000 met the reserve and reflected the value of the house as well as the potential for subdivision into building blocks.

Standing on 2.2ha and fronting Matheson Road, the property consisted of a 1950-built stone dwelling with two bedrooms in original condition.

The auction attracted an attendance of 60 and was conducted on behalf of vendor Ron Palmer by John Chay.

Bidding opened at $180,000 and the successful bid was made by local investor Kim Dodd.

The property auction was preceded by a clearing sale by Mr Chay of household goods which attracted 20 registered bidders.
