Country Health SA defended

ACTING Health Minister Zoe Bettison has responded to claims Country Health SA is “not well connected” to regional South Australia.

Mount Gambier Liberal candidate Craig Marsh this week blamed a disconnect between State Government and regional South Australia for the “deterioration” of the city’s health services.

Mr Marsh voiced concern over a loss of medical specialists and high turnover of staff at the Mount Gambier Hospital.

He said the six regional health boards promised by the Liberal Party would provide better health outcomes for the region.

“While Steven Marshall and Craig Marsh are focused on talking down hard working staff in country hospitals, the Labor Government is investing in our world-class public health system,” Ms Bettison said.

“If Mr Marsh had consulted with Country Health before making these comments, he would know that six doctors, including a general physician, obstetrician gynaecologist, anaesthetist and resident medical officers are starting full-time employment at the Mount Gambier Hospital over the coming month.”

Ms Bettison said recruitment for other vacant positions was also under way.

“Country Health SA works closely with the Health Advisory Councils and staff at each hospital to ensure patients in country areas continue to receive world-class care,” she added.

“I would like to thank the staff at Mount Gambier Hospital for their dedication in caring for their community.”
