Local Labor candidate supports road projects in the region

FUNDS COMMITED: Highway motorist Monica Scriven and local Labor candidate for the Legislative Council, Clare Scriven welcome funding allocations for shoulder sealing on the Princes Highway between Millicent and Kingston.

THE allocation of State Government funds to a number of high-priority road projects in the Limestone Coast has been welcomed by Labor’s Limestone Coast candidate for the Legislative Council, Clare Scriven.

She said the multi-million dollar commitment will increase safety across the regional road network.

Ms Scriven said the Labor Government was committed to improving road infrastructure in the local area and across the state.

“Like most regional residents, my family and I spend a lot of time on the region’s roads,” Ms Scriven said.

“Shoulder sealing and other treatments will make a huge difference, and this funding will go a long way to addressing our area’s highest priorities.

“It is also great to see that both the Princes Highway and the Riddoch Highway will be improved, because both the inland and coastal routes are important for people travelling to Adelaide.”

Among the funded projects are shoulder sealing and audio tactile line marking.

Road Safety Minister Chris Picton said there were 101 fatalities on South Australian roads last year.

“The State Government remains focused on reducing deaths and injuries on our roads, and our investment in infrastructure plays a critical role in achieving these goals,” Mr Picton said.

“Serious casualty crashes in rural areas are mostly single vehicle type crashes on high speed roads and through constant analysis of road crash statistics, we are able to identify the priority locations for upgrade works.”
