Long-serving councillor awarded

HONORED: Councillor Gwenda Lawlor with her certificate of outstanding commitment from the Local Government Association of South Australia.

LONG-SERVING Wattle Range Councillor Gwenda Lawlor has been recognised for her dedication to the local community at a function held in Adelaide recently.

Cr Lawlor was presented with a certificate of outstanding commitment for 20 years service to local government by Local Government Association of South Australia president, Mayor Lorraine Rosenberg at a dinner last month.

She began her career as a council representative with Beachport District Council in 1991 through to the amalgamation with the Penola and Millicent district councils to form Wattle Range in 1997.

During this time she served as deputy chairman for two years and chairman for three.

After making an unsuccessful bid to become the inaugural Wattle Range mayor, Cr Lawlor took a break.

She was elected to represent the Corcoran ward of Wattle Range Council in 2003 and continues to serve there today.

Cr Lawlor has sat on a number of additional council, community, regional and state committees and working parties and advocates passionately on a range of relevant community and rural issues.
She is a long-serving member of the Mount Gambier and Districts Health Advisory Council.

Mayor Peter Gandolfi congratulated Cr Lawlor on her 20 years of service.

“Gwenda has actively made contribution to council for many years and her recognition by the Local Government Association is well deserved,” Mr Gandolfi said.
