Greyhounds: Committee change up

FOLLOWING the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club’s recent Annual General Meeting, Raquell (Kel) Dalton, Tim Holmes and John Woodland were elected to the committee after Tania Charman and Allen Williams did not seek re-election.

Dalton, who is the mother of five girls aged 17 to 24 and a grandmother of two, first became interested in greyhound racing about three years ago when called upon one race day to fill in for the gatekeeper.

Later, she worked as a photograph finish operator before becoming a Greyhound Racing SA steward, officiating at race meetings and assisting at trial sessions.

Holmes, an electrician in the employ of club sponsor Chris Klaassens, has been around greyhounds most of his life through the involvement in the sport of his father Allan.

Allan Holmes, who received life membership of the club in 2012, is also a former committee member.

Tim Holmes is a trainer in his own right, winning at Tara Raceway with Timmy’s Tiger (bred by his father) last month.

Pick up any Tara Raceway race program from 1982 onwards and the name John Woodland will be listed among the stewards.

Awarded life membership in 1995, this will be the first time he has served the Mount Gambier club as a committee member although in 2000-2001 he was the president, working in association with secretary Connie Miller.

Woodland recently relinquished his role as a steward but continues to be actively involved on race days as the kennel house supervisor.
