FORMER Naracoorte High School student Dr Kate Grarock will make a special appearance at the school’s upcoming presentation assembly next week.
Starting her career in the military, Dr Grarock then studied a Bachelor of Environmental Science researching Australian gliders.
After honours, Dr Grarock worked in the Federal Environment Department before undertaking doctorate research at the Australian National University.
Her research produced six scientific papers focused on the effective management of introduced species.
Following this, Dr Grarock moved to Hanoi with the Vietnam Academy of Science and on returning to Australia was appointed the sanctuary ecologist at Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary in Canberra, where she currently works on research and restoration of critically endangered grassy woodlands.
This year, she was selected as one of 30 women across Australia to participate in the Superstars of the STEM program.
Science and Technology Australia selected 30 of the nation’s most dynamic scientists and technologists to create role models for young women and girls and work towards equal representation in the media of men and women in STEM.
On December 12, Dr Grarock will address students, teaching staff and community members at the Naracoorte High School presentation assembly which will start at 7.30pm in the Williamson Hall.
