Controversial Robe fence saga enters new phase

THE saga regarding the controversial wooden fence along the Robe foreshore has entered a new phase.

The erection of the fence in front of the Robe Hotel and environs several months ago prompted a community outcry as some claimed it obstructed views and was out of character with the area.

Robe District Council chief executive Roger Sweetman said his council had considered some alternative designs for the fence at the Robe foreshore at its meeting held in November.

“We have put these options before the community, seeking the community’s feedback,” Mr Sweetman said.

“The period for community consultation ends on February 23.

“The comments received from the community will be collated and presented to council at a meeting early in 2018.

“These comments will assist council in reaching a decision regarding the future of the fence and the eventual design of the fence.”

These six options include two designs which are favoured by South East heritage advisor Richard Woods.

The seventh option is the status quo.
