Funds allocated for tennis facility overhaul

MOUNT Gambier City Council will commit $400,000 towards a proposed overhaul of the deteriorating tennis facilities at Olympic Park.

The $1.2m redevelopment will be driven by Tennis SA and Tennis Australia.

The proposal outlines a new acrylic playing surface, kiosk, seating and elevated viewing deck, tennis pavilion and lighting for tournament night matches.

Council’s funding contribution is conditional upon Tennis SA and Tennis Australia securing full funding commitments.

With council contributing one-third of the cost, the remainder will be funded by government grants and tennis organisations.

At this week’s full council meeting, elected members authorised council’s chief executive and the mayor to negotiate and execute funding, development and land tenure agreements for the project.
