Upgrade ball in council’s court

THE Mount Gambier City Council Strategic Standing Committee has voted in favour of a proposal to overhaul the deteriorating tennis facilities at Olympic Park.

The motion will now be tabled for discussion at next week’s full council meeting, where elected members will consider contributing $400,000 towards the $1.2m proposed overhaul.

The redevelopment proposal outlines a new acrylic playing surface, kiosk, seating and elevated viewing deck, tennis pavilion and lighting for tournament night matches.

If council commits to one-third of the cost, the remainder will be funded by government grants and tennis organisations.
