Softball season kicks off

Wanderers 11 d Concordes White 7

WANDERERS and Concordes White did battle in Round 1 of the Mount Gambier Softball Association season and the game certainly lived up to expectations.

Concordes batted first with Hannah Taylor being the only one to get on base.

Wanderers started well with Em Hart hitting a two-bagger to right field, followed by a nice hit to centre field by Jo Hart to bring the score to 2-0.

Both teams fought hard to gain the lead, but the scores were level at 4-all after the third dig.

Concordes put together some nice moments of play with impressive hits from Maddie Sutherland, Nicole Saunders and Brandi Miller which brought Concordes to a total of seven runs.

Despite the match heading Concordes’ way, Wanderers came out in full force and managed six safe hits to win the game 11-7.

Warriors 8 d Demons 6

WARRIORS managed to claim the win over Demons despite an impressive start by the latter side.

Bella Morale put Demons on the right foot in the opening minutes of the Round 1 match, hitting a single.

As a result Demons gained the momentum and score three runs in the first innings to fire up the young Warriors side.

However, Warriors fought back hits from Nic Vause and Leyna Bruggemann.

The game was hard-fought with both sides slowly chipping away at each other with singles.

Some great pitching from Bruggemann and fielding from Erin Chaplin helped hold off Demons’ strong batters Cody Manning and Steph John.

Overall consistent team batting and fielding was what kept Warriors afloat over the inexperienced Demons side.
