Police chase turns violent

POLICE arrested a 55-year-old Millicent man following a short pursuit in Naracoorte on Friday morning.

Just before 10am, police attempted to stop a green Toyota station wagon on Stewart Terrace.

The driver failed to stop and police lost sight of the vehicle.

A short time later the vehicle and the driver were located on Smith Street where police arrested him.

According to police, the man resisted violently during his arrest and assaulted police, resulting in minor injuries to an officer.

The driver was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and is expected to appear in court at a later date on charges of engaging in a police pursuit, dangerous driving, assaulting police and resisting arrest.
