DARTMOOR has kept its track record as one of Victoria’s tidiest towns after being named a finalist for the 32nd consecutive year for the coveted award program.
The timber town has been named a finalist in the state-wide Keep Victoria Beautiful 2017 Tidy Town of the Year award as well as three other categories.
These include the community/government partnership, community action and leadership and the protection of the environment awards.
Dartmoor District Progress Association president Wendy Dowling said community pride had continued to grow since the town first entered the competition in 1985.
“People have developed a stronger sense of ownership of the features of our town,” she said.
“The program is a great platform to showcase our achievements and recognise the outstanding input of volunteers in small communities like ours.”
Glenelg Shire Mayor Anita Rank said to be named as a finalist for the overall Tidy Town of the Year was an incredible achievement for the small township, which has only 100 residents.
“This is a town who work together to bring the best out in their community,” she said.
“The development of the open space/bicycle/walking track, utilising the disused railway land that runs through the centre of the town, is a notable stand out illustrating why the town has been successful in this competition.”
The Horsham awards ceremony will take place on November 25.
A Regional Tidy Town Awards presentation will also be held at the Dartmoor Primary School on October 10 at 9.30am.
