Local financial planner recognised

GREAT ACHIEVEMENT: National Australia Bank employee Venetia Langlands has been shortlisted for the financial planner of the year accolade in the Women in Finance Awards 2017.

ENTERING into financial planning only nine years ago, Mount Gambier resident Venetia Langlands never thought she would be up for an award.

Previously working as a marketing manager, the National Australia Bank (NAB) employee said it was an honour to be nominated in the Women in Finance Awards 2017.

Assisting many people throughout the region in achieving their financial goals, Ms Langlands’ career change has proven to be a positive step forward for the working mother, finding out recently she has been shortlisted to receive the financial planner of the year award.

“It has been very challenging, every day is different, but helping clients to reach their goals and objectives throughout different stages of their lives is quite rewarding,” she said.

“I really love what I do building rapport with clients and ensuring their goals are achieved.”

However, Ms Langlands said like any job it had not been without its challenges, looking after both the Mount Gambier and Naracoorte branches.

“Recommending strategies is complex as I’m required to tailor plans to individuals needs,” she said.

“I have continued to develop, challenge and pride myself in building relationships with clients by continuing to provide sound advice and building professional relationships.”

Ms Langlands said there was a common perception people only needed to see a financial planner if they had significant wealth, however, that is not correct.

“It is available to anyone who wants to take a responsible approach to managing their finances,” she said.

Nominated for the award by her assistant in Adelaide, Rachael Devereaux, Ms Langlands said she was overwhelmed when she heard the news.

“It was so nice of her to nominate me and then to be shortlisted was amazing,” she said.

Travelling to Sydney this week, she will be up against 11 other finalists in her category.

“There will be women from all around Australia, both regional and metro and not just in the banking industry,” Ms Langlands said.

“This includes privately-owned boutique financial planning firms, all the banks, credit unions and all of the independents as well.

“No matter what happens, I’m just happy to be chosen as a finalist – I think that is a really great achievement.”

The Women in Finance Awards 2017 will take place on September 21 in Sydney.
