SOUTH East residents are being encouraged to support their town this year and nominate for the annual KESAB Sustainable Communities Program.
The program is a focus for hundreds of regional communities to showcase positive action taken by communities, schools, businesses and councils across South Australia to protect their local environment, enhance their towns, embrace sustainability and showcase their initiatives.
Program manager Alex Hammett said long-term sustainable practices are now entrenched in regional communities and the 2017 awards will showcase the best examples.
“We are looking for the very best town across small, medium and large categories and then one of those will be declared the overall winner,” she said.
In 2016, more than 150 category entries were received and 30 towns visited during comprehensive judging, which resulted in Barmera being announced as the overall state winner.
