THE DARTMOOR community has thrown its support behind the Greater Western Sydney Giants ahead of tomorrow’s blockbuster Australian Football League grand final.
Giants’ star forward Jeremy Cameron – or “Jezza” as he is almost exclusively known as by locals – hails from the small country town and residents will be riding every kick and bump in his pursuit for glory.
The town’s Bush Nursing Centre held a footy colours day yesterday, with residents dressing in their favourite team’s merchandise.
Jeremy’s cousin Emma Britten – who works at the centre – said she held close connection with the professional player.
“We were always out hunting, fishing and four-wheel driving since I can remember,” Ms Britten said.
“It was what our parents used to do so it was what we all did.
“It is good he has not changed much since he began his career and he still is basically the same person.”
Ms Britten said centre residents and staff were in their element and all hopeful GWS would take home the win.
“It is great to see the community get behind him and he loves seeing it too,” she said.
“I sent him a photograph before and he thought it was amazing to see the town decorated and everyone dressed up.”
Ms Britten said the centre had recently updated its emblem which incorporated GWS colours.
“I think the centre’s idea was to become more involved in the community and join the Dartmoor Football Club’s theme,” she said.
“We will all be watching the game on Saturday for sure.”
