Collection helps St Vinnies appeal

STUDENTS from Mary MacKillop Memorial School united to support the community last week when they held a ‘Cans, Coins and Casuals’ day.

The day encouraged students to dress up in casual clothes, bring a gold coin donation and a can of food to help the St Vinnies appeal.

Year 2/3 teacher Kimmi Varcoe said students embraced the cause, bringing in as many items to donate as possible.

“The kids really got on board and did their part which was amazing,” she said.

“Us teachers decided to dress in our school uniforms while the kids were in casual clothes for a bit of fun.

“Each class made a specific design out of their cans and we chose to go with a helping hand.

“Overall I think it is a great experience for the kids and helps them learn more about the world around them.”

Students collected more than 290 cans for the cause, with the Year 2 and 3 class awarded the top honour with a whopping 99 cans and other donated items.
