RUBY’S Reunification Program held its first annual Pride In Your Stride walk on Friday with more the 50 members of the community in attendance, including Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell.
The event was hosted to acknowledge National Homelessness Week and help raise awareness of homelessness in the Limestone Coast.
Participants walked from Vansittart Park to the ac.care Community Centre, where they were invited to attend a free breakfast.
Event coordinator Dawn Cardona said she was overwhelmed with the support the event received.
“People were encouraged to bring shoes to donate as part of the event and we received around 30 pairs,” she said.
“With homeless people walking great distances every day to find shelter, good shoes are a necessity.
“The donations we received were amazing and we are so grateful to everyone who attended.”
