AS NAIDOC Week celebrations continued last week, Uniting Communities Aboriginal Community Care celebrated by traditionally roasting a kangaroo for community members.
More than 100 people gathered at Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation on Friday to celebrate, with attendees also making damper, participating in face painting and enjoying a musical performance by elders Aunty Penny Bonney and Aunty Val Brennan.
A slide show showcasing the region’s influential elders was also displayed throughout the event.
Uniting Communities Aboriginal Community Care’s Lynda Kember said the event would become an annual celebration due to its inaugural success.
“It is important we celebrate Aboriginal culture and our rich 60,000 year history,” she said.
“It is worth getting to know.”
She said support for this year’s NAIDOC Week activities was strong and the event continued to grow each year.
