Cheryle Saunders, Alexander Bruce and Kiara Woods acknowledge NAIDOC Week in the city.

COMMUNITY members gathered in the heart of the city yesterday to acknowledge and recognise the culture, history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as part of this year’s NAIDOC Week.

A flag raising ceremony at the Cave Gardens was held in the morning before crowds marched along Commercial Street to Pangula Mannamurna for NAIDOC award presentations.

The NAIDOC theme for this year is “because of her, we can”, highlighting the important role Aborigional and Torres Strait Islander women play in their communities.
