THE Penola community united at War Memorial Park on Friday to celebrate Australia Day and acknowledge this year’s influential citizens of the year.
A community breakfast was provided by the Penola Lions Club, with the Australian flag raised by members of the local Returned and Services League.
Wattle Range Council Mayor Peter Gandolfi and Councillor Rob Thornett presented the prestigious Wattle Range Council Australia Day Awards.
Young citizen of the year went to Penola High School graduates Ella Kain and Aliza Pfitzner and the citizen of the year went to highly respected community member Sydney (Snow) Merrett.
The Lions Club Senior Citizen of the Year was awarded to Keith and Dorrie Bennier.
