REIDY Park Primary School students last week took part in the first round of this year’s BrickGambier school competition to showcase their creativity and construction skills.
Creating their own LEGO model, the students came up with an array of different designs from dragons and dogs to spiders and trains.
Glencoe resident and organiser of the Blue Lake city’s first BrickGambier event Emma Robinson made a special visit to the school on Friday to judge the creations.
“It was a very difficult decision, there were so many good creations and you could see a lot of hard work had gone into creating them,” she said.
After much deliberation, Ms Robinson chose the best three entries from the three age groups to go onto the next stage and compete against other schools at the main event this weekend.
“I wish I could give everyone a prize, from what I have seen I think it is going to be a very tough grand final,” she said.
As well as taking part in the LEGO competition, Reidy Park Primary School students also had the opportunity to dress up as their favourite animal and raise money for Wet Noses Animal Rescue.
Raising a total of $538 for the local organisation, the students’ donations will go towards the re-homing of cats and dogs in the region.
“I am very grateful for their support, to raise that much money is excellent,” Ms Robinson said.
BrickGambier will be held on Saturday and Sunday at St Martins Lutheran College from 10am to 5pm.
The event will feature the school competition and an array of displays from local and visiting LEGO enthusiasts.
Entry fees apply with all funds raised going to Wet Noses Animal Rescue.
