A BROKEN leg did not deter Holden fanatic Bruce Potter from landing a dream purchase, entrusting his daughter and a close friend to test drive the VS Commodore ute he desired.

Mr Potter fell in love with the five-litre vehicle around five years ago when it was owned by a work colleague.

“I told him, if he ever sold it to let me know as I really wanted to buy it,” he said.

“I do not think he ever took seriously.”

Coincidentally, Mr Potter said his daughter Maddy saw the same car for sale last year when it was parked on the roadside.

“She asked me whether it was the ute I had been talking about and it sure was,” he said.

“She was certain there was a sign on it so we went for a drive and had a look.

“When I did talk to the owner about it, he had forgotten the conversation I originally had about wanting to buy it five years ago.”

With a broken leg at the time, Mr Potter said he asked Maddy and his friend Peter to take the 2000 model VS Commodore for a test drive.

“Maddy wanted it for herself to keep later on in life,” he said.

“One of my older daughters had one exactly the same which was why Maddy wanted it.

“I gave the final yes or no decision to Maddy, and when they came back from the test drive it was all smiles and grins. It was a definite yes.”

Mr Potter said it was a nice car and was a hard one to get.

“I love the colour, V8 noise, five-speed transmission and everything about the car,” he said.

“With the stance and hard lid, I think it is just an appealing looking ute.

“It is definitely one of the finest utes ever made and has a lot of style.”

Mr Potter said he believed the colour – Amazon Blue Pearl – along with the wheels and partial leather interior was specific to the VS model.

“It was sourced locally and has actually been in Mount Gambier its whole life from my understanding,” he said.

“It will definitely stay here and in the family because when Maddy gets her provisional licence she will be pinching it on a fairly regular basis.”

Mr Potter said he wanted to redo the leather steering wheel upholstery and have the exhaust system upgraded at Carline Automotive & Exhaust.
