THIS 1984 VK Commodore SL sedan offers a trip down memory lane for owner Dave Suckling, having owned a similar model in his younger years.

Mr Suckling said his current VK was sold brand new from OG Roberts and has stayed within the South East for most of its life.

“I believe I am about the fourth or fifth owner and I have all the original books which came with it,” he said.

“The only modifications and adjustments I have done are altering the wheels and tires and refitting a water pump and thermostat housing.

“I think my next job will be fixing and tidying the minor rust spots on the car body.”

Running a straight-six engine, 202 carburettor and four-speed manual transmission, Mr Suckling said the vehicle remained “standard”.

“I actually bought a two-year-old VK secondhand sometime in the mid 80’s,” he said.

“It was the first car I had actually bought.

“I liked it so much back then and this one just came up so I grabbed it.”

Mr Suckling said the vehicle brought a feeling of nostalgia for him, having owned it for around two years.

He said he loved getting his hands dirty and fixing up cars.

“It is just about getting out in the shed on days when the weather is not so flash and working on my car,” he said.

“For me this car only comes out on the weekends.”

Bringing a unique platform of social interaction, Mr Suckling said he enjoyed talking to his friends about classic vehicles.

“All the blokes at work love old cars so we always like to talk about them,” he said.

“People often come up to you and say that the car is nice, I like the wheels and stuff like that.

“It just brings back memories I think.”

Modifying sedans is out of the ordinary for Mr Suckling, holding a passion for working on four-wheel drives.

“For the past 20 to 30 years I have always had a four-wheel drive,” he said.

“Every vehicle I have had I have adjusted it in one way or another.

“This is a bit of a change up for me, a bit of a side project.”
