New president takes reins of city lions club

PRESIDENT CHANGEOVER: New Lions Club of Mount Gambier president Allen Woodham accepts the position from outgoing president Trevor Jacobs.

A NEW president was sworn in at the Lions Club of Mount Gambier’s 56th annual changeover dinner last week with Trevor Jacobs stepping down and Allen Woodham taking the reins.

Mr Jacobs delivered his annual report on the night, reflecting on the club’s successes despite the disruption of COVID-19.

He also presented zone chairman Malcolm Laslett with a prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship in recognition of his outstanding service across 16 years.

Members heard as COVID-19 restrictions eased the Lions woodcutting team was able to resume activities, cutting and splitting 30 tonnes of wood which was delivered to clients.

Every dollar raised from the sales will be invested back into the community through club projects.

Additional deliveries were also made to vulnerable residents.

The Lions catering team has also returned to hosting the barbecue at Bunnings as part of its fundraising efforts.

Members also recently planted over 20 sheoak trees at Lions Centennial Park as a memorial to club members who had passed away.
