HIT THE BOOKS: Penola High School Year 12 students Ruby and Alex will continue to study hard as Year 12 exams confirmed for the end of the year.

YEAR 12 students have returned to the classroom for term three, buoyed by the knowledge end of year exams will go ahead in 2020.

Written exams – worth up to 30pc of a student’s final grade – will take place as planned from October 20 to November 16.

Penola High School Year 12 student Ebony Moulton was relieved major disruptions had been avoided.

“I did not want to do Year 12 without doing my exams,” Ms Moulton said.

“Throughout the year I have continued studying as if they were always going to go ahead so it is great to know its happening.”

Mount Gambier 2 education director Ruth Schubert said it was business as usual in the district, with no schools closing nor needing to operate online.

“Our focus is to ensure that schools and teachers continue to support their students to achieve their potential,” Ms Schubert said.

“The schools in the South East Coast and Vines Partnership already work collaboratively in the Wattle Range Education Network to provide a greater breadth of educational options in senior secondary schools.”

Meanwhile, term three has also brought the resumption of school assemblies, intrastate camps and excursions and school sporting competitions.

School formals, socials, class photographs and playground and occasional care have also been given the go ahead as COVID-19 restrictions ease across the state.
