HANDWOVEN blankets made by Reidy Park Primary School Year 3 students have been donated to ac.care support vulnerable residents during winter.
Learning about gratitude as part of Wellbeing Week, students grouped together to craft five handmade throw rugs, which were handed over to the Limestone Coast welfare provider last night.
Year 3 teacher Belinda Say said the project allowed students to help those less fortunate in their community.
Ms Say said the project also touched on geographical learning, with students also studying weather patterns and the current wintry climate.
“Students understood that although we could keep warm inside, others could not and they wanted to help people to be able to too,” she said.
Divided into five groups with four to five team members, Ms Say said students helped cut and tie the blankets together during two lessons.
“It was great to see them working together, helping each other and develop skills they may have not been able to on their own or before,” she said.
“I think students did get a lot out of the project in a larger scale too, because they then realised how fortunate they are with the things they have in their life.
“It is great they are also helping out local community and they have really taken it on board. They are all very proud of what they have created.”
Year 3 student Emma said she hoped the blankets would help people who did not have a home or could not afford to buy a blanket themselves.
“I think I might try and make some at home and now and hopefully help more people out there,” she said.
