CONSULTANTS have suggested significant changes to the services at the Beachport and Penola council offices and visitor information centres.
The suggestion to switch from a year-round to a seasonal service is included in a 70-page report which will be tabled at tonight’s Wattle Range Council meeting.
According to the consultants, it might be feasible for the Beachport and Penola offices to be only staffed at peak times such as January and April with “pop-up” offices operating at other times.
The consultants were commissioned several months ago to review the operations of the visitor information centres at Millicent, Beachport and Penola.
In addition to servicing the needs of tourists, staff perform council-related administrative tasks and other duties at the Beachport and Penola offices.
Council staff recommended elected members receive and note the contents of the consultants’ report.
Tonight’s agenda runs to 223 pages and the meeting will be held in the supper room of the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.
It includes correspondence from mayor Des Noll in which he protests to Target management about the announced closure of its Millicent store in 2021.
The organisers of the annual Feast festival in November have asked council to fly the rainbow flag at this time as a way of celebrating cultural diversity.
Council will consider the allocation of a windfall $630,000 Federal Government stimulus grant with staff suggesting the upgrade of the council-owned Beachport Bowling Club and Beachport’s Susan Wilson Memorial Playground as two of five possible projects.
