MOUNT Gambier bodybuilder Travis Cameron was pumped when he returned to lifting weights at a gymnasium following the lengthy shutdown of the sector.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be back in the gym,” Mr Cameron told The Border Watch as he lifted weights yesterday.

“I have really missed weight training within a gym setting.”

Mr Cameron said he would now be hitting the gym up to seven times a week preparing for future competitions.
“I participated in a competition at the start of the year before the lockdown, hopefully I can enter other competitions.”

Mount Gambier gym owner and manager Georgia McDermott – from Mount Gambier Fitness – said the business was excited to open its doors yesterday.

“We are really happy and the Mount Gambier community has welcomed us with open arms,” Ms McDermott said.

She revealed the business planned to open when the COVID-19 restrictions were initially enforced.

“We did not end up opening then because of the restrictions. While that set us back a little bit, we are just so happy we can now open,” Ms McDermott said.

She said gym-goers were “super-excited” to be back in the gymnasium after isolation.

Jesse Sypott – who is a co-owner of Mount Gambier Fitness – said the support from the community had been “overwhelmingly” positive.

“We have been really busy, which is fantastic. We are so excited to be able to open our doors.”

The operators said strict hygiene and social distancing measures were being followed.
