WATTLE Range Council’s first online Australian Citizenship ceremony was recently held through Microsoft Teams.

It was officiated online by mayor Des Noll.

He took up his customary position at the head of the table in the council chambers at Millicent.

The new Australian citizen is Pov Ly, formerly of Cambodia who currently resides in Millicent.

Together with her husband Mark Wright, they have a young family.

Meanwhile, the ranks of Australian citizens have also grown at Robe with the naturalisation of local resident Audrey Cassagne.

Robe Mayor Alison Nunan oversaw proceedings, but not in the chambers of the Robe District Council.

Mayor Nunan witnessed Ms Cassagne swear the oath of allegiance from a remote location online.

Like Wattle Range, the unusual ceremony was prompted by the protocols associated with the COVID-19 virus.

It was also a first for the Robe District Council.
