Millicent library ‘back in business’

Carmel And Kristy TBW Newsgroup
READY TO BE BORROWED: Millicent Public Library staff Carmel Tomlinson and Kristie Rowe examine some of the new books which have been added to the collection.

THE Millicent Public Library is partly back in business this morning after several weeks of COVID-19 restrictions.

The Federal Government ordered the nationwide closure of libraries in March, but doors at the Millicent facility will reopen from 9am and follow the usual opening hours.

However, a limit of 10 users at a time will apply and visits will be limited to a maximum of 30 minutes.

Millicent library manager Janice Nitschke welcomed the revised arrangements and said various COVID-19 protocols remained in place.

“We have purchased new books and DVDs and have totally refreshed the library so that it has more space and the collections are more accessible,” Ms Nitschke said.

“With the opening up of libraries, we continue to operate in accordance with the government’s health and safety advice and are committed to playing our part in controlling the spread of COVID-19.

“We have taken all necessary measures to ensure our library is a safe, hygienic environment for everyone.

“The health and safety of our team, patrons and the community will always be council’s first priority.”

Ms Nitschke said the Millicent Public Library would continue to offer a click and collect service to individuals who did not wish to enter the library, with homebound services to recommence.

“We will only have three computers available for use and if there is a demand then we will take bookings,” she said.

“Justice of the Peace services will continue to be available by appointment.

“Photocopying service will be available undertaken by the staff.

“We have remote printing available through an app which enables the patron to print from their device.

“The app is loaded onto their device and enables them to print and even send the print job to the library.

“Currently there will be no other programs or digital services available.

“We anticipate that in June we will increase numbers able to enter the library.”
