TEDDY bears of all varieties are currently lining windowsills of more than 20 Millicent homes as a light-hearted tonic for the pain of the worldwide COVID-19 virus.
The concept originated overseas several weeks ago, with the presence of teddies providing an opportunity for families to go “bear hunting”.
From the safety of vehicles, youngsters can accompany their parents on drives around their neighbourhoods and towns and spot the cuddly toys.
It has been embraced in over a dozen countries.
Many Millicent residents are opting to self-isolate as much as possible, including the household of Bradyn Reilly and Katherine Taylor and their young daughters Bella and Ruby.
Ms Taylor was made aware of the teddy bear hunt from a social media post.
“We decided to put one of Bella’s teddies in our front window,” Ms Taylor said.
“It was a gift at her birth from our Adelaide friends Chad and Emily Parks.
“We have been out for a couple of drives around Millicent looking for other bears in front windows.
“The girls are at an age where they would not understand the COVID-19 virus and its impacts.
“However, they like getting out of the house and the fun of finding the bears.
“Bradyn works in the building trade as a concreter and there is still plenty of work for him at the moment.
“He is still being asked to quote for jobs.”
The Taylor/Reilly household is following the advice of authorities this weekend and will spend the long weekend in Millicent.
Ms Reilly said Bella and Ruby would go on a backyard Easter treats hunt on Sunday morning to see if the Easter Bunny has paid a visit.
