Mill at ‘full capacity’ as demand continues

STRONG DEMAND: Tissues and toilet paper are not remaining for long at the Kimberly-Clark Australia Millicent Mill distribution centre as demand for the product has surged in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

THE Kimberly-Clark Australia Millicent Mill is working at full capacity due to great demand for tissues and toilet paper.

The company has sought expressions of interest for casual employees to bolster its mill workforce of 400 company employees and contractors.

Management is tight-lipped about the number of temporary employees it requires to meet the surging demand and the likely start date.

Kimberly-Clark Australia’s communications department confirmed the Millicent Mill was hiring local residents.

“Our Millicent Mill is still operating at full capacity to address the increased demand,” the spokesperson said.

According to a Millicent Mill insider, some temporary workers had already started work in the distribution centre of the plant.

Panic buying of toilet paper started around the nation last month in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As some indication of the demand for toilet paper from various companies, Woolworths chief executive Brad Banducci said supermarkets were still experiencing twice the usual demand.

“Just this week that was over 20.5 million rolls,” he said.
Toilet paper restrictions remain in place in Woolworths and other major supermarkets.
