MOUNT Gambier taxi driver Troy Butterworth stands outside the city’s airport terminal yesterday waiting for passengers.

His taxi was one of a number stationed outside the terminal yesterday hoping for customers after a Regional Express plane touched down.

“It has been so quiet out here since the restrictions have come in,” Mr Butterworth told The Border Watch.

He revealed services had reduced and the number of people coming off planes was now “negligible”.

Mr Butterworth – who drives for Vears Taxis – said the number of passengers had diminished greatly with now only one or two per trip from the airport.

Asked whether he was worried about COVID-19, he said being a taxi driver was always high risk.

“My overall business has dropped by about 40pc,” Mr Butterworth said.

While he hoped business may improve, he conceded the taxi industry needed to ride through these uncertain times.
