PROFESSIONAL and support staff at Millicent Veterinary Clinic are taking extraordinary measures in the wake of the spreading coronavirus.

The veterinarians, nurses and support staff are currently wearing face masks and gloves as they deal face-to-face with dozens of human customers each week.

Vet co-proprietor Dr Sarah McGrath said the measures were designed to protect the health of the nine staff who look after the welfare of the pets and livestock of Millicent and district.

“We are just trying to look after our community and stay healthy,” Dr McGrath said.

“We are acutely aware that if one of us go into quarantine we all do.

“This means we will not have anyone to attend to calvings, snake bites and canine parvovirus outbreaks that are all pretty active in our area at the moment.”

Dr McGrath has appealed to community members to follow the government-sanctioned measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus such as personal hygiene.

“Let’s keep all our local small business doors open and protect the healthcare workers who are looking after us,” she said.

“If we can all do our bit to keep our hospital beds open even from flu, then our community will continue to thrive and our employee workforce can feel safe about their livelihoods.”
