Council cleans up after Penola toilet vandals

VANDALISM: Wattle Range Council is urging individuals with information about a spate of vandalism in Penola to contact police.

WATTLE Range Council staff were left to clean up the mess left by senseless graffiti and theft at Penola’s public toilet facilities on Arthur Street and Portland Street in recent weeks.

Toilet roll holders were broken and paper rolls were stolen from the sites.

In addition, large sachets of liquid soap were removed from dispensers.

Council chief executive Ben Gower said while the items may seem minor, replacement and cleaning costs would be borne by ratepayers.

“It is always upsetting when facilities provided for our residents and guests are mistreated,” he said.

“Works have already started to remedy the vandalism at both sites.”

Mr Gower said both facilities would remain unlocked to allow public access 24 hours a day, but warned if theft and graffiti continue locking the sites overnight may be considered.

Community members with any information about either incident are encouraged to contact the police.
