GRANT High School students will put skills learnt in the classroom on display for all tomorrow night at the annual Sound Bites festival.
Serving up food, beverages, craftwares and entertainment, the school’s student cohort expect an influx of up to 1000 people at the Mount Gambier Railway Lands.
Charged with organising a bulk of the festival with support from teachers and school staff, students continue to grow the festival’s reputation since its inaugural showing in 2016.
Students from Year 9 through to Year 12 are involved in the planning, with school teacher Pariya Ziakas revealing weeks of planning had gone into tomorrow night’s event.
“We have our kids making preserves, textile merchandise and much more,” Ms Ziakas said.
“The event really brings the students together and it is just all about having an authentic learning experience.”
The performing arts cohort will present new works they have developed, while textile students will sell handmade merchandise alongside home economic students, who will offer food and beverages.
“We have such strong support from the community and are so grateful for them to come and support the kids in their efforts,” Ms Ziakas said.
“They have been working on their sections since the beginning of term and during that time they do trials of food, rehearse the music performances and get the merchandise together.
“We really look forward to hosting something the students can get engaged with and actually work within the community and show the community what they are able to achieve in a public forum.”
The event will be held at the Mount Gambier Railway Lands from 5pm tomorrow.
