THE Open Door Baptist Church will celebrate the end of one era and start of another at a special luncheon this weekend.

The church community was recently forced from the O’Halloran Terrace building – where it was a tenant – to make way for construction of the Mount Gambier Community and Recreation Hub.

The church has moved to the Mount Gambier and District Senior Citizens Club on James Street where it will hold its third service at the site on Sunday, followed by a special luncheon.

Pastor Robert Cotton said the lunch was an open invitation and an opportunity to celebrate the move to the new building.

“It is the start of a new era and Sunday will be the perfect opportunity to celebrate and share some of the memories of the previous building,” Pr Cotton said.

While the move has presented some challenges, Pr Cotton said the church had been supported.

“Council hase been quite helpful to us in making the move as easy as possible,” he said.

“While it was disappointing to relocate, we understand why it had to happen.”

After holding two Sunday services at the new location, Pr Cotton said there had been a few learning curves.

“We are still working through how we want to set up the building for the service, but we are on the right track,” he said.

Sunday’s service will start at 10am and will be followed by lunch.
