BUSINESS BEST: MS Hein & Sons’ Rob Knightly and Laurie Judd celebrate the success of building trades apprentice of the year Connor Haines, alongside Construction Industry Training Board field officer Katja Gubbins (sponsor) and GTE’s Damian Radley.

THE outstanding efforts of two Millicent apprentices were celebrated at the annual Group Training Employment apprentice and trainee of the year awards presentation.

MS Hein & Sons’ apprentice Connor Haines was named as the Building Trades apprentice of the year and Campbell Serle of Steve Scheidl Constructions won the work health safety best practice awards.

Group Training Employment manager Greg Megaw welcomed the crowd of 60 guests before handing over to board deputy chairperson Scott Whicker.Mr Whicker praised the achievements of the young people and said the success was underpinned through the efforts of Group Training Employment staff, host employers and family and friends.

Construction Industry Training Board field officer Katja Gubbins addressed the crowd on the importance of training young workers in their chosen industry.

Ms Gubbins acknowledged the construction industry faced tough challenges, but the value and importance of the sector was a core pillar of society.
