LIMESTONE Coast musicians who use facilities at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre will benefit from a Stand Like Stone Foundation grant.

The community-focused foundation awarded $1500 to the Limestone Coast Symphony Orchestra for new music stands and trolleys which allow for easier storage and access when needed.

The orchestra has worked toward the project since early 2018, with two large Winger trolleys chosen due to their mobility and noise-reduction features.

Orchestra manager Jennie Matthews said the trolleys were a welcomed addition to the theatre, adding it would give all performers easier access.

“A lot of stands are metal and when you clash them together they are noisy where as these are light and you just pull them up,” she said.

“The good thing about the trolleys is because they are on wheels and on good bearings they can rotate 360 degrees.

“It also allows the stands to be stored upright which makes it easy to manoeuvre on stage as well as load and unload.”

Ms Matthews said obtaining the trolleys and stands was the orchestra’s way to give back to the theatre, which has thrown support behind the musical organisation for years.

“We are very grateful and pleased the orchestra has this mandate to encourage music in the community and encourage students and schools to host their concert at the theatre,” Ms Matthews said.

Stand Like Stone chief executive Anne Kerr said the charity organisation was delighted to support the musical community.

“Knowing the money they received in the grant will benefit musicians in our community forever is a fantastic result,” Ms Kerr said.

Stand Like Stone’s next round of grants are now open with applications for educational scholarships closing on March 21.
