Penola gym unveiled in a bid to maintain community fitness

Marcus Devereux TBW Newsgroup
GYM FACILITIES SAVED: Penola Football Club president Marcus Devereux utilises some of the new equipment at the brand new Penola gym.

PENOLA and Coonawarra residents will be able to increase their fitness levels with the Penola Football Club launching a new central gym.

After the town’s sole gym closed last year, the club decided to develop a facility in the centre of town.

While the club had been using the small gym for some time, the facilities officially opened to the wider community on Monday with basic new equipment on hand.

Club president Marcus Devereux said the 24-hour gym will provide residents with another fitness outlet.

“We have just gone out and brought new equipment and everything we need so members of the gym can utilise the space,” Mr Devereux said.

“Gym members will have a tag which they will need to sign into the gym whenever they need to.”

Facilities include bike machines, light weightlifting and treadmills.

Despite not having classes the club president hopes the community will still get on board.

“If this one goes well we are looking at opening up a second one with classes and more things like that in the future,” he said.
